Great New Show Just Announced!

"I say Hey I be gone today
But I be back around the way"

For weeks I had this song stuck in my head and had absolutely no idea who it was singing. Little did I know that is was this band called Michael Franti and Spearhead. They were here a few months ago at the Pantages Theater, but I hadn't put these two pieces of information together yet. But that is a-ok because Michael Franti and Spearhead are coming back to Minneapolis to play a show in September! Finally! A new concert announcement at the Northrop Auditiorium - and for such a great band! Big. Excitement.

Northrop Auditorium tickets are on sale now for Michael Franti and Spearhead, actually Northrop Auditorium tickets for this show went on sale last week - I'm getting a little behind here.

Even if you are still not sure who I am talking about and asking "Who is this Michael Franti?" all you need to do is turn it on your radio to KDWB and you will hear "Say Hey" - it's on heavy rotation right now. It's a great, fun summer song!

See you at the show!

Strolling Through the Northrop

I was walking through campus the other day and was wondering when a concert was going to roll through town at the Northrop again. There have been some major acts there this past couple of years: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and new acts like the Killers and John Legend. Northrop Auditorium tickets for all of those shows were very difficult commodities. I really think I am believing the rumor mill on this one that the Northrop is getting some work done on it this summer - simply because I think it is a little weird that there is not one single touring act that is stopping there this summer. I know that it is the summer and the University is on summer break so staffing may be a little more difficult, but come on, it's such a wonderful facility and it holds so many people.

Walking through campus is a lot of fun. They really take good care of the grounds. I walked through Stadium Village through the mall area up to Northrop. I made a stop my the new science building (it's about time they tore that old one down!) and then made my way to Dinkeytown passing good ol Jones Hall, where I spent a lot of my time in college. I stopped in and had a beer at Blarneys, simply because I could not have one at the Dinkeytowner, may it rest in peace!

Lets think about this - think of all the past acts at the Northrop - think of you would like to come back the most? Let me know!

Looking for something free and cheap to do this summer?

If you are like a lot of people in this economy, finding something cheap do to can be a struggle sometimes. Movies get expensive, concerts can break the bank, and it all gets to be over whelming sometimes. But the Northrop is putting on a series of concerts all summer that are FREE! Northrop Auditorium tickets are not needed for this event. All of the concerts are outside in the courtyard, which as you may know over looks the mall area on the University of Minnesota campus. In case of rain, however, the concert will be moved inside.
June 15th with the New Primitives will be the official kick off party for the summer concert series. This particular date will feature complimentary refreshments, Jimmy Johns and ice cream (however, quantities are limited).
Here are a list of the upcoming free Northrop Auditorium shows in June:
11 Michael Hauser and A Touch of Spain
15 New Primitives
16 France Has the Bomb
17 Summit Ave.
18 Kristoff Krane
19 De Visa Musical Troupe
22 Café Accordion
23 Lynhurst
24 Charanga Tropical
25 The New Music Machine
29 Tony Hauser and the Brasilnutz
30 The Front Porch Swingin’ Liquor Pigs

The shows start at noon and continue until 1pm. The festival celebrates Northrop Auditorium's 55th Anniversary. Shows go through the end of July and they are all F-R-E-E!!

Graduations in full swing at the Northrop!

For the first time ever last week I went to the Northrop Auditorium! It was not for a concert so there were no Northrop Auditorium tickets needed for this event. I was there for the University of Minnesota's Nursing School graduation. The ceremony was really nice, it was nice to experience an college graduation seeing as I chose not to attend my own! The School of Nursing only had about 160 graduates whereas the College of Liberal Arts that I graduated from usually has about double or triple that.

The speaker that they had was really cool. She was a retired nurse for the army and had her own foundation that she tuns in her retirement. She was a southern woman that simply told it to you how it was, which I admire. There was no sugar coating of our economic times, she simply told the graduates that they had to get out there and make the best of it. I thought the speech was fantastic!

There are a lot of events that take place at the Northrop Auditorium that are not concerts that you will need Northrop auditorium tickets for. For example, there will be a Holistic Health & Healing Summer Institute seminar June 15th thru 19th that you will need admission tickets for.

Other than that it is a slow summer for Northrop. The person sitting next to me at the graduation mentioned that the Northrop Auditorium will be closed for renovations next year, something I had not heard before. I am going to go and Google News search that soon to get some more information!

see you around campus!

Did anyone go to Flight of the Conchords?

I just read the review of Flight of the Conchords show at the Northrop and I kind of wish that I would have went! I have only seen a few of the shows and they are obviously very funny, but I read that they came out in cardboard robot heads on Sunday night - how hilarious would that have been to see!?
In case you are not sure, Flight of the Conchords, is the show on HBO that has a cult following of epic proportions. When they were here last year, the show at the Orpheum sold out in minutes and there was not a ticket to be found. This time around they played at the Northrop which holds over 4000, but even still Northrop Auditorium tickets for this show were a very difficult find. The show was completely sold out!

If anyone went I would love to hear a review of the show!

How bad do I want to go to the Killers?!

Real bad.
Really really bad.
I suppose I could go if I wanted to sit in section 6 row 35, but I'm just too spoiled when it comes to concerts to do that! I know, quit complaining or be quiet. But seriously, how did this show get so sold out?!
Northrop Auditorium tickets for this show are just about gone.

I keep hearing the new Killers songs from their new album and I really like what I hear. I've been meaning to pick up a copy, but life has been too busy to update my blog on a regular basis, let alone stop by Electric Fetus. That is kind of sad because I live only a few minutes away!

Minneapolis music fans will have a lot of concert decision on Monday the 19th though. In addition to the Killers, Lil Wayne will be playing at the Target Center and AC/DC will be playing at the Xcel. Target Center tickets for Lil Wayne are still available, however, if you are looking for Xcel Energy Center tickets for AC/DC good luck! That show is super sold out!

I hope I see you at the Killers!
